VET Student Loans assists eligible students enrolled in approved higher level Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses to pay their tuition fees.

Please note:

  • VET Student Loans will not be approved for students who do not meet eligibility requirements.
  • A VET Student Loan gives rise to a HELP debt that continues to be a debt due to the Commonwealth until it is repaid.

Tuition Fees

How do you wish to pay the tuition fees for these qualifications?*

Upon enrolment, you will receive an invoice for your tuition fees. Because you have chosen to pay your fees using VET Student Loans, the invoice is provided for your information only - no action is required.

You have chosen to pay your fees using a combination of VET Student Loans (VSL) and upfront payments. We will be in touch with you get more information about how you would like to split the payments for each Unit of Study between VETSL and upfront payments.

Academic Requirements

AIE needs to ensure that students are academically suited to undertake the course. To demonstrate this AIE interviews all students as well as gathers evidence of prior learning.

Citizenship, visa and residency requirements

Students that wish to access VET Student Loans are required to meet the citizenship and residency eligibility for VET Student Loans. To be eligible, students must be either be:

  • Australian citizens, or
  • Permanent humanitarian visa holders who are usually resident in Australia, or
  • New Zealand citizens who hold a Special Category visa and meet certain qualifying requirements.

Other permanent residents/permanent visa holders are NOT eligible for a VET Student Loan.

AIE is required to retain a copy of information collected in satisfying identity, citizenship and visa status for a period of five years, in accordance with the requirements of the VET Student Loan Rules.

If you were born in Australia before 20th August 1986, a birth certificate is sufficient evidence to meet the citizenship requirements for VET Student Loans.

Which of the following applies to your parents?*

If your birth certificate shows at least one of your parents was born in Australia, and they were born before 20 August 1986, this is sufficient evidence to prove Australian citizenship and eligibility requirements for VET Student Loans.

If your birth certificate shows at least one of your parents was born in Australia, and they were born on or after 20 August 1986, your parent’s full birth certificate is required.
